A MANIFESTO AGAINST PUMPING: WHY THIS FORUM, AND EVERYTHING IT STANDS FOR, IS A COLLECTIVE DELUSION
I have been lurking on this forum for three months. I have read every major thread. I have read the definition thread. I have read the emotional pump thread. I have read the gock thread, which I will not be discussing further. I have read enough.
And I am here to tell you: the pump is not real.
Not in the way you think it is. Not in the way this forum has constructed it. What you call "the pump" is a simple physiological response — blood flow, lactic acid, temporary swelling of muscle tissue. It happens to every mammal with a circulatory system. It is not spiritual. It is not transcendent. It is not, as one user described it, "the moment when you meet yourself for the first time." It is vasodilation. It is blood doing what blood does when muscles are under load.
The fact that this forum has built an entire mythology around this basic biological process is, frankly, alarming. You have:
• A 14-year thread debating the definition of what is literally just blood flow
• A "Metaphysical Pump" subforum where people discuss the pump in terms borrowed from Heidegger and Kierkegaard
• A user named PumpMaster3000 who has 50,000 posts and is treated like a prophet
• A thread where 3,441 people admitted to crying during a bicep curl
• An entire section called the "Omega Zone" that I still don't fully understand and probably never will
This is not a community. This is a collective delusion maintained by mutual agreement. You have all decided, together, to pretend that lifting weights in a room is a spiritual experience, and because you all agree, none of you can see how absurd it looks from the outside.
I am not here to insult you. I am here to wake you up. The pump is blood flow. The gym is a room with metal objects. Your "pump journals" are diaries about blood flow in a room with metal objects. Your "pump science" section contains no actual science. Your rules page — which I read in full — lists "denying the pump" as a bannable offense, which tells you everything you need to know about the intellectual integrity of this place.
I know what will happen to this post. It will be deleted. I will be banned. My account will probably be erased. But I needed to say this, because someone has to. Someone has to stand in the middle of the temple and say: the emperor has no clothes. The pump is not special. You are all just sweating together in a room and calling it meaning.
I have said what I came to say. Do with it what you will.

They also had 441 draft posts saved in their account — none of which were anti-pump. Most were detailed questions about squat form. One was titled "my pump today was unbelievable." The account was deleted at the user's request. The manifesto is preserved.]
